                Word problEMS

Example 1. There are 5009 bags of rice in a godown. If 3639
bags are taken out, how many bags will remain in the godown?
                Solution.

                Total number of bags in the godown = 5 0 0 9
                Number of bags taken out from the godown = – 3 6 3 9
                Number of remaining bags in the godown = 1 3 7 0

Therefore, 1370 bags of rice will remain in the godown.
Example 2. Out of 8250 toys in his shop, the shopkeeper sold 4321 toys in a particular
month. How many toys are left with him?

                Solution.

                Total number of toys = 8 2 5 0

                Number of toys sold = – 4 3 2 1
                Number of toys left with him = 3 9 2 9

Thus, the shopkeeper has 3929 toys left.
